I was recently invited to speak on the topic of “Education in an Age of Generative AI” at a special webinar series organized by the ASU-Cintana Alliance. In this talk, I explored both the potential and considerations surrounding Generative AI in education, emphasizing how educators can proactively harness this technology while remaining mindful of its broader implications.
This presentation was part of an initiative by ASU-Cintana institutions, a global network of forward-looking universities, to produce faculty-focused webinars centered on a range of topics related to higher education. My talk was the last in a series on AI in higher education. Others who had spoken before me included my close friends and colleagues: Janel White-Taylor, Jim Dunnigan, and Janice Mak.
The global reach of this event was truly remarkable, with over 330 participants joining from 15 different countries. The audience included 85 educators from Mexico, 76 from El Salvador, 52 from Peru, 26 from Indonesia, 22 from Honduras, and many more. This international participation highlights both the global impact of the ASU-Cintana Alliance and the interest in understanding how GenAI is reshaping education across diverse cultural contexts.
A huge shout-out to the ASU-Cintana team (including Lois Malone and Emilia Gracia) for helping organize this webinar. Thanks and apologies to the translators who had to deal with my excitable, rapid-fire style of speaking. The video of the webinar is included below.
