New Orleans, here we come…

by | Friday, February 01, 2008

Matt and I will be at New Orleans next week for the AACTE Annual Conference. The last time I went to New Orleans must have been in 2000 or 2001… so I am looking forward to going there. There are three specific things we will be involved with.

  • Meeting of the AACTE’s Innovation and Technology Committee, Thursday, February 7 from 4:15-6:15 p.m. Norwich Room on the 3rd floor of the Hilton New Orleans Riverside
  • Book signing for Handbook of TPCK, Friday, February 8, 2:00 – 3:30. We are expecting the following authors/editors: Matt Koehler, Punya Mishra, Mario Kelly, Nancy DePlachett, Marcela van Olphen, Raven McCrory, Joel Colbert…Having never participated in a book signing before… I am kind of excited, even though this is an edited book, and I have just one chapter in it, co-authored with Matt. That said, it is a book on TPCK, which is cool.
  • AACTE Major Forum, Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Versaille Ballroom
I have blogged about this event before… more details, and copy presentation coming soon.

LanguageART: Meaning making through type & image

I love collecting quotations—usually related to learning, design, and creativity. Over the past couple of years I started trying to visualize these quotations, playing with type and image, to tease apart their meanings, sometimes to undermine, sometimes to enhance. I...

Palindromic poetry: Falling Snow

A few weeks ago I had written about an email that I received from an eighth grader in Colorado. Jake, a budding poet, was interested in learning more about me in the context of some palindromic poetry I had written many years ago. I wrote back to Jake (you can see the...

Hurting but happy!

This morning I participated in (and completed) the Capital City River Run Half Marathon. The emphasis is of course on "completed" - I wasn't into breaking any records here. I got a pace of 10:15 per-mile (which was approximately what I had last year as well). The...

Representing $$, two different ways

The power of serendipity... A few minutes ago I received a note via Facebook / Ken Dirkin providing a link to Where are your taxes going for 2010?. A few minutes later, via StumbleUpon, I came across this: The MasterCard Commercial I’d Like To See. Now each of these...

Killing with a thought

I had recently posted a note (It's only a game...) building on some thoughts in an article by William Saletan. In this article Saletan describes how weapons are increasingly becoming like games. His recent post takes that whole thing one level further. He describes...

New ambigram: Nirvaan

My friend, Hartosh (I had written previously about his mathematical novel here ) and his wife Pam, recently had their second child, a baby boy. Since I had created an ambigram for the first guy (click here to see the ambigram for Nihal), I felt it was required of me...
